6 Exciting Wedding Trends that are One-of-a-Kind
Weddings, whether traditional or untraditional, have seen many trends that come in and really add some fun flare. Here are a few wedding trends that I’ve seen more and more and to be honest, they’re kind of fricken cool.
Candid Photos - Yes, I know what you’re going to say. “Rosie, candid photos have been around forever.” and Although that is true, I’m noticing wedding photography move more towards documentary style than in the past. People are no longer looking for the standard look at the camera and smile photo, they want movement, laughter, creativity that showcases a moment in time. I’m not saying the classic photos don’t matter, because they do and they last a lifetime, but I do see a lot of the inspiration moving another direction. That of which, I truly am loving. As a photographer, the classic, timeless photos will always be there but I do feel a little like a superhero when I get to freeze a moment that they can look back at and remember as one filled with love and laughter.
Experiential Entertainment - This is a wedding trend I think makes for a super fun guest experience. A lot of brides and grooms are moving towards creating an experience whether it’s with a live painter, a bouncy castle or an audio guestbook. Couples are even hiring sketch artists to join cocktail hour and surprise guests with 5x7 portraits of themselves - what a fun way to honour your guests!
Nighttime Flat Lay Photos - This is for my photographers and is something I think we’ve been missing out on! We all (well at least I do) love a good flat lay photo that highlights details but I’m watching photographers take on night time flat lay photos during the reception that create a more party-vibe detail shot. They can include anything from the rings, the cake, a champagne glass, the late night pizza the couple had ordered - ANYTHING that captures details of the table set up in a fun, flashy way.
Quality Time With Your Almost Spouse - I know the “can’t see your bride before the wedding” rule but a lot of couples are moving towards something a little different - beyond the first look. They’re doing private vow readings, coffee or breakfast with their spouse, or just sneaking away to remind your partner you love them. I find this one of the sweetest new trends I’ve been seeing.
Dress Changes - IT’S TIME TO PARTY!! And it’s hard to party in a long wedding dress so….. we introduce dress changes! I’m seeing brides change into cute mini dresses, white running shoes or even white track suits - anything that keeps them comfortable on the dance floor.
First Looks - These have been around for a long time but I’m watching the trend of first looks expand more and more. It’s no longer just for the groom to see the bride for the first time, but also for bridesmaids, fathers and mothers of BOTH bride and groom. I’ve also been seeing a lot more humorous first looks with the best man putting on a fake wedding dress and taking the brides spot in the grooms first look.
Your wedding day is about what you and your partner want to see and I hope reading this maybe sparked some ideas for your upcoming day. Regardless of what you choose to incorporate, your day will be special for YOU.
